Well…this project was supposed to be up and going the week of Presidents Day, but as you can see…I’m a little behind! We’ve been working really hard writing biographies about Abraham Lincoln and George Washington.
First, we read 2 biographical books on each president, one was a chapter book and one was a picture book. We took research notes on important facts we wanted to include. That was the part that took longer than I expected. With all the assemblies, holidays, conferences, etc, I overestimated the time I’d have for read aloud these past few months.
After we were done with our “research,” we used 4 square writing models to write our paragraphs one by one. We edited and composed our final biographies which got displayed on these oh-so-cute glyphs from GlyphGirls on TPT. The presidents turned out HUGE! I’m talking 3 feet tall! The kids loved them and I think they turned out super cute and made for an impressive bulletin board. It may be my favorite board of all time!
Of course, the craft is getting all the attention, but I’m SUPER proud of my kids for being able to pull off a well-written five-paragraph paper. That’s some great work for 3rd graders and I couldn’t be more impressed with all their hard work. 🙂
